Jacinta Wright was born in Wimbledon on December 21, 1949. She started to play the piano at aged 4 and was accepted as a junior exhibitionist at Trinity College of Music, London aged 12. She went on to complete five years in the full-time department on a performer’s course, then a graduate course and after winning the Maud Seton Prize for pianoforte, a postgraduate year studying performance, accompanying and chamber music.
Mother to four daughters, Dominique, Lucyanne, Genevieve and Gabrielle and grandmother to Sam, Eva, Amelia, Wilbur and Rufus. She would very sadly never get to meet her 2 further grandsons, Teddy and Chuck.
She was such an amazing mother who raised her children with unconditional love, support and laughter and will be missed every day by her family, friends and pupils.
Jacinta had an eclectic career as a classical concert pianist and accompanist, but also performed cabaret, musicals, storytelling, ceilidhs, world music, circle dancing and all kinds of community music.
She was also a talented oboist, harpist, saxophonist and played the accordion.
During her time living in Bury St Edmunds she performed in many concerts and productions as a soloist but also worked with local schoolchildren, refugees, people with learning difficulties and physical disabilities in local schools.
Jacinta started teaching over 50 years ago and has loved and dedicated herself to the hundreds of pupils she has taught privately and in schools since 1965.
Her teaching ethos was based around fun and laughter aiding the learning process and building confidence which hopefully spilled out of the lesson and into day to day life. While this was an admirable goal in itself, Jacinta saw this as a crucial element in helping her pupils achieve musical excellence.
She also believed music was a healing and therapeutic force and was passionate about making sure it was accessible to all whether as part of every child's education or for people with severe disabilities or illness to enable them to experience the joy that making music brings.
Jacinta passed away on 27th April at home surrounded by her family.
Youth Music's work is exactly what Jacinta has been doing throughout her life and what she would want her legacy to be.
Jacinta was a great friend for many years
I loved my grandmother very much and will forever respect with love everything that she taught me, no sum could ever sum up what she taught to everyone who knew her and to me; which I realise with each day that I grow older. I love and miss you Nonna, stumbling across this page by chance was the most beautiful thing that has happened to me in a long time. It reminded me that there will always be part of you guiding me.
A truly authentic and inspirational artist, teacher and animateuse, Jacinta was never content to think inside the box and radiated positivity to all who crossed her path. She has enriched our lives immeasurably with her warmth, joy and sense of fun. Thank you, dear friend.
