Sometimes you see something that sets you back with a start! The notice in the EDP ths week of the passing of Jacinta Wright was one such event. I have not seen Jacinta for some twenty years but for about 5 years previously we were good friends. She was a naturaly kind person who would help anyone and so very talented - when she played Chopin, Debussy or the Irish composer John Field she could create magic.. She was selected to play the 100th anniverary concert at Wigmore Hall. On one occassion a friend of mind called Captain Richard Meyrick had a stroke and asked me to sing at his funeral. He wanted a song called Speed the Plough. I tried to find the music but failed, he then had a few more strokes and I asked Jacinta if she knew the song but she didn't. However she gave me the number of a music shop in Milton Keyns who might know and they suggested Speed your Journey from the opera by Verdi. Jacinta taught me the song in Italian before suggesting I learn it in English because it would be easier. Sadly when Richard finally passed away I was not informed until it was too late, Thus it was that a week or so later at about 8 pm I got to sing at his grave side accompanied by Jacinta. It was bizzare!. Years later on visiting an old house in Tredegar the curater said that the servants at harvest would come together to sing "speed the plough". Jacinta had a difficult life at times but bore everything with great fortitude. I shall miss her but keep the memories. I organised concerts for Jacinta at places like the cinema Stowmarket, and the Theatre at Aldborough. They were sponsored by Nat West and packed out.Jacinta thrilled her audiences. She even gave charity concerts at Fornham All Saints Village Hall and Hengrave Hall. She had a wry sense of humour. She loved her daughters. Somewhere I have programmes / posters of her concerts and if I can find them I will send them on through the undertakers. Rest in Peace Jacinta - the world is a much better place for your passage through it.
